What Is Botox?
Botox is a very popular Allergan injectable and is a type of neurotoxin derived from botulinum toxin type A. This bacterial product has a number of medical uses, including treatment of migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in areas like the armpits). However, it is best known for its cosmetic uses.
FAQs
How long does the treatment take? How many sessons are needed?
Our average, Botox injection treatment sessions take from five minutes to 30 minutes. Treatment time correlates with the area(s) that are treated and can be altered if we perform concomitant filler therapies. One treatment with Botox lasts from three to six months.
When fillers are combined with neurotoxin, studies have shown a synergistic effect that can, in some instances, last up to 12 months. Repeat treatments are carried out when the cosmetic benefits have worn off.
How much discomfort can I expect from the treatment?
There is minimal, if any, discomfort with this procedure. No topical or local anesthesia is required.
How long does it take to see the results?
It can take up to seven days to see results from the Botox procedure. If you do not see results by this time, then it is possible that you are resistant to treatment or are forming antibodies to the toxin.
What about post op care?
This cosmetic injectable does not require any sort of recovery or downtime. We recommend avoiding exercise for 24 hours. Do not lie flat for four hours after treatment. We also recommend that you have Tylenol™ ready in case a headache develops.
Do not massage the area unless otherwise directed. Patients are advised to call us if they develop complications, such as brow drop or double vision. These are very rare occurrences and can be resolved in short order.
