New Approaches to Dermal Fillers
David T. Harvey, MD, FAAD, FACMS Mohs Surgeon & Cosmetic Dermatologist
I am happy to be posting live from Denver with an update on dermal fillers and neurotoxins. At the AAD meeting, we are learning that the latest buzz is surrounding Allergan’s newest filler –Juvederm Voluma for cheek augmentation. This filler is a naturally occurring protein sugar called hyaluronic acid. It has been formulated in such a way to allow dermatologists and plastic surgeons to recreate a more youthful appearance in the lateral cheek, midface and chin areas. Through adding volume, we are able to restore what is lost over time. This procedure in many instances can delay more invasivetreatments such as face or neck lift surgery.
Juvederm Voluma is one of the most durable crosslinked hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Its chemical structure allows the product to be quite stable in the skin. Benefits have been seen for up to two years.
Voluma adds another important tool for us to use for the benefit of our patients. We can combine this volume enhancer with other dermal fillers such as Juvederm for lip augmentation, Restylane for glabellar and outer eyebrow refining and Radiesse for prejowl sulcus smoothening.
For me personally, it is a fun time to be involved in a field that is changing for the better so quickly. We hope you are as excited as we are about the prospects of seeing what Juvederm Voluma can do for you. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about this wonderful new product.
