What Is Laser Resurfacing?

CO2 laser resurfacing in Newnan is a type of skin treatment used to address numerous cosmetic issues by stimulating the body’s natural healing process, creating a rejuvenated appearance.

Our Fraxis Duo™ CO2 laser system is a “gold standard” device. It is a highly sought-after system because it can integrate multiple advanced technologies into one platform. The CO2 laser emits the longest wavelength of light compared to other lasers and can be used on a variety of skin types.

Treatments can be easily tailored to meet the specific cosmetic need(s) of our patients in Newnan. This state-of-the-art device excels at treating a wide range of skin conditions. These include deep wrinkles, pigment abnormalities, blotchiness, acne scars, and surgical or traumatic scars.

How It Works

Fractional CO2 laser takes light energy and fractionates or “pixelates” it into thousands of tiny little columns. These pixels of light energy can be configured to selectively injure a target within the skin itself. During the repair process, new collagen is produced and the regenerated skin appears healthier and more vibrant.

FAQs

How long does the CO2 laser treatment take?

This depends on the area(s) being treated. Usually, most treatments are completed within one to two hours. This will be reviewed with you at your consultation. Please plan to be at our office for a few hours.

Who is qualified to perform laser surgery?

Most dermatologists have experience with laser resurfacing surgery, as this is required in their residency. Since results are operator-dependent, it’s important to select a cosmetic dermatologist with experience.

Fraxis Duo laser can be used to:

  • Erase fine lines and wrinkles of the face
  • Smooth and tighten eyelid skin (Madonna Lift)
  • Improve crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Soften skin “dimpling,” acne scars, and frown lines
  • Remove brown spots and improve skin color
  • Improve and flatten scars
  • Improve the appearance of stretch marks
  • Repair smoker’s lines
  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Treat warts, unwanted skin growths & large pores
  • Improve earlobe texture and appearance
  • Improve female sexual health
  • Improve female incontinence issues

What about the pre-op care?

It is necessary to obtain a pre-op history for the procedure. In some instances, Neurotoxin (Botox) treatments are performed to relax the muscles of facial expression. All retinoic acid products should be discontinued for one week prior to the procedure. Pre-op antibiotics and antiviral medications are employed to minimize the risk of infection. Finally, we ask our patients to have someone drive them to and from the office and to stay with them for the first 24 hours after surgery.

What can be expected during and after treatment?

Discomfort is usually minor during the procedure. Following skin resurfacing, the skin is red or pink and may be covered with a fine crust. Treated sites must be protected from sunlight during the skin’s recovery process. Once healing is completed, protective sunblock should be applied on a regular basis to achieve the best results from the treatment.

What are the potential risks with CO2 laser resurfacing?

Significant complications are rare, and the risk of scarring is low. Some patients may be at risk for varying degrees of pigmentation loss, particularly with aggressive COsettings. Other common side effects include crusting, swelling, pain, and discoloration at the treatment sites. These issues usually resolve in short order.

How long does it take to see the benefits from laser?

It can take up to 1 to 4 weeks to see beneficial results. Final results are seen at 6 months to one year.

Laser resurfacing is not a substitute for a facelift, nor can the procedure eliminate excess skin or jowl formation. However, by tightening loose skin, laser resurfacing can improve certain folds, creases, acne scars, and pores. This technique is an advance over traditional procedures such as dermabrasion. It can be used in conjunction with other techniques such as chemical peeling, eyelid surgery, liposuction, skin tightening procedures, neurotoxin treatments and filler therapies.

How much does laser resurfacing cost?

The price of CO2 laser resurfacing in Newnan is impacted by several factors. The location of the skin issues, the type and size of the issues, and the medical practice you choose for your treatment all play a role in determining the final cost.
